According to the GeorgiaInfo website, the current Towns County Courthouse was built in 1964 in downtown Hiawassee. The designer was Henry M. Whitehead, Jr., and the architectural style employed was a modern one. Towns County’s first courthouse reportedly was built in the Hiawassee town square in 1857, which is about 500 feet from the current courthouse. The building served until 1905, when a new courthouse was completed, until it was replaced by the current one.
