“Lest We Forget” on Flickr.
In most of the rural counties in Georgia, you are apt to find at least one or more memorials to the local residents that have served in the military and in wartime, including the Civil War. This particular memorial is in Washington, Georgia, which is the county seat of Wilkes County, and it is about 43 miles from Athens, Georgia.
One of the things that caught my eye about this particular memorial is that the inscription resembles a stencil more than an engraving. The next is the prayer itself. While I understand the first line of the entreat, what is the author fearful that we would forget?
